Book Description

The Rebel Within by Lance Erlick

The Indie Book of the Day for 16th of August, 2013!

Genre: Science Fiction, Dystopian

First book in Rebel series.

After the Second American Civil War, the Federal Union pursues a utopian world without men by rounding up the remaining males, and enforcing harmony. Central to their plan is EggFusion Fertilization and Female Mechanized Warriors based near Knoxville.

Sixteen-year-old Annabelle is a tomboy who lost her parents at age three. Despite her rebellious acts against a conformist society, the state pushes her to become a cop intern to catch escaped boys. Then she’s forced to choose between joining the elite military unit that took her parents or being torn from her beloved sister and adoptive mom. When she meets a handsome boy who escaped prison, she must wrestle with the consequences of following her conscience, and choose between capturing him and helping him get away.

While facing a cop intern boss who hates her, a military commander who demands too much, and an amazon bully who won’t leave her alone, Annabelle struggles with conscience. She risks everything (exile, adopted family, and maybe her life) if she hunts for her imprisoned birth mother and follows her conscience in helping boys escape the federal roundup. If she can’t stand up to the amazon or fails the rigorous military qualifying program, she could suffer the same fate.
