I am an author, playwright, English lecturer, and educational consultant, and the one to watch in this literary industry. My southern Mississippi roots are being nurtured in Chicago, Illinois.

I have taught college composition for over 19 years. My first book, My Soul to His Spirit:Soulful Expressions from Black Daughters to Their Fathers, won the 2006 National Fresh Voices Award.

Lime, my debut novel, takes you, the reader, along with Lime’s around-the-world adventures as an international supermodel. However, in the midst of her fairy-tale life, she is forced to confront the realities of violence against women. For the first time, the fantasies of beauty come face-to-face with the horrors of domestic violence.

In my spare time, I enjoy time with my three gifted and beautiful daughters, cardio and strength training, bike riding, swimming, live theater, concerts, reading, and listening to NPR.

Torn Together by Emlyn Chand

The Indie Book of the Day for 31st of January, 2013!

Genre: Contemporary, Women’s Fiction

Why does growing up have to be so difficult?
Daly English is having a harder time than most. Her future as an artist is unclear, her relationship with her mother is damaged beyond repair, and–to top it all off–her long-term boyfriend is having an affair. When Daly befriends two unlikely individuals–first a pregnant teen, and then a light-hearted charmer from India–her cynicism begins to melt away.

Meghann provides insight into Daly’s life and an endless stream of good advice, comforting Daly despite her own less fortunate position.
Kashi proves he cares too much about Daly to let her fade into the background of her own life. After a series of false starts, their quirky romance carries them to India, where Daly must win the approval of Kashi’s family in order to seal their “forever.
Will these friendships be enough to turn around Daly’s directionless life? Will she move past the hurt and learn to trust again? Or will her mother, once again, ruin everything she’s worked so hard to achieve?

Torn Together, Emlyn Chand’s first sojourn into Literary New Adult Fiction, weaves a tale of friendship, dreams, and a lingering loss, while illustrating how our similarities often drive us apart.

Chantal’s Call by Traci Bonney

Book Description

Chantal's Call by Traci Bonney

The Indie Book of the Day for 30th of January, 2013!

Genre: Contemporary, Women’s Fiction

Chantal Atherton grew up sharing her last name with her hometown, and as the oldest daughter of the founding family’s current generation, she chafed under the expectations of her parents and their country club set.

Her plans to establish a life away from the Mississippi town that shaped her early life are derailed when her father suffers a heart attack. Called home to take over as his office manager, Chantal returns to a town only slightly changed from her teen years. A few new businesses on Main Street, a couple of new faces at the sheriff’s department – not much seems different.

Everything quickly changes when Brigitte, Chantal’s younger sister and the rebel of the Atherton family, joins a new religious organization and starts pulling away from her parents and sister. As Chantal investigates the group’s leader and finds out he is not who he claims to be, she turns to the newest member of the sheriff’s department, Deputy Marc Thibodaux, for help in reaching her sister before she becomes the victim of what looks very much like a cult.

Chantal’s lukewarm faith is challenged as she looks for answers. At the same time, her heart hears a call of another kind, but a recent heartbreak has her questioning whether or not she is willing to risk love again.

Can she answer the call, and can she find a way to help her sister before it’s too late?

Chantal’s Call is a story of redemption, forgiveness and hope, set in a small town on the kudzu-covered banks of the Mississippi River. Suspense, romance and humor mingle in this contemporary tale of a family in crisis discovering what truly matters.
