Tethered Worlds by Gregory Faccone

The Indie Book of the Day for 15th of February, 2015!

Genre: Adventure, Science Fiction

Jordahk Wilkrest doesn’t think he’s special. The backwater world of his birth has only known peace in his lifetime, and the war is bygone history. Far from its centuries-old stalemate line, Jordahk’s interest is collecting war era technology called “mystic.”

Suddenly, political corruption and the people’s own complacency opens a dreadful door, literally. Their way of life will be no more as the enemy assembles their giant transporting machine in orbit. The Wilkrests valiantly resist, but are unable to thwart the enemy’s designs on land or in orbit. Jordahk is forced to leave his wounded parents and go off-world with his stiff grandfather. They venture far into the dustbin of human space looking for war-era help.

Now Jordahk finds out his family line is a lot more special than he ever knew. Their quest leads to dangerous mystic technology– controllable only by a select few. It’s a wild ride for Jordahk, who has to come to terms with abilities he never knew he had… and their consequences. Can his new shady crewmates stop fighting amongst themselves long enough to overcome the enemy? They must if Jordahk’s parents and his homeworld are to stand any chance.

You might think part-time mystery man Gregory Faccone has lived ten lifetimes. He’s experienced the ocean’s cool dawn, and baked in 130° deserts. He’s worked amidst the concrete canyons of major cities, and on a dark, rainy night, driven a remote road carpeted with frogs (true story, really).

Classically trained in creative arts, he performed a long tenure developing electronic entertainment with both independent companies and the biggest names like Electronic Arts and Sony. He collaborated with Universal Studios, Warner Bros., and Paramount, adding content to popular franchises from science fiction, with Star Trek, to comics, to even medical dramas like ER.

However, Gregory desired to share his creations beyond fleeting game system technology. The written word has stood for centuries, and although reading mediums evolve, novels continue unimpeded. A reader’s bond with a quality literary work is unlike any other. When Gregory starting creating a unique science fiction universe, he knew the medium for which it was destined. The fantastic framework for his science fiction series, “Tethered Worlds,” took two years to create before he jumped into writing the first entry.

Gregory is influenced by Arthur C. Clarke’s axiom: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” So jump into Tethered Worlds and go on an adventure based in the centuries to come. While the technology is advanced, the nature of mankind is unchanged. It continues to wrestle with flaws, and is preserved through selflessness and nobility.

I’m a first time novelist. I love reading, writing, travelling, history, science and a many more interesting (or not!) subjects. Of course, these interests don’t separate me from the majority of the population and my hobbies are quite generic. I thought I’d just get that part out of the way. But I’d like to tell you why I have embarked on this journey.

For most of my adult life, I worked as a Child & Youth Worker in residential group homes and in the school board. I’ve worked and cared for many children like the ones described in my book. I’ve always felt that these children have been misrepresented and misunderstood. I decided to write about what I knew and so I created a character that lived in the social services system. Through humor and the occasional tear, I attempted to inform the reader what it is really like for the children of foster care and perhaps, to send a message to these special children that there is always hope. So, I decided to take my work experience, love of adventure novels and natural creative talent to write my book.

The truth is, I began this endeavour simply as a hobby and a means to divert my mind from my very stressful job. I’ve always been an avid reader but didn’t believe that to mean that I was a writer myself. I simply decided to write a novel that I would enjoy reading. However, as I began my journey into the written world, I discovered a passion that I didn’t know existed. Writing this work was the most difficult, yet the most exhilarating experience of my life.

I aim to keep writing and I hope you keep reading. I hope to hear from you!

“Sophie Davis” is a pseudonym for two best friends, roommates, and now writing/business partners. The pair met at Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law in 2005, and have been making mischief, mayhem, and stories together ever since. After they graduated, when one longed for the ability to read minds so she wouldn’t have to study for the bar exam, a Saga was born.

Two years ago they released Talented, Sophie Davis’ debut novel and the first in the five-book Talented Saga. Three of the follow-ups, Caged, Hunted, and Created have since been released, as well as a novella, Captivated and a spin-off novel, Exiled. In addition to the Talented books, Sophie has released books in both the Nightmares Trilogy and the Blind Barriers Trilogy. All of these have been on multiple Bestseller Lists in five countries.

The duo currently lives in Washington, D.C. They practice law by day, and stay up into the wee hours of the night crafting new story ideas and perfecting existing ones. Both are compulsive list-makers, self-proclaimed horror movie aficionados, and birthday cake lovers. Each owns an adorable dog – a poodle and a daschund/german shepard mix – who are the girls’ faithful companions as they navigate the world of Indie Publishing.

The duo is presently hard at work on the Blind Barriers Trilogy, which they hope to finish entirely by January 2015. After that they’ll get started on Inescapable, the final book in the Talented Saga, which will hopefully release in Spring 2015. Later in 2015 they will be releasing a new series they’re both very excited about, and anxious to begin writing. It is doubtful the pair will ever run out of ideas.

When the two aren’t discussing new marketing strategies or typing furiously, they can be found shopping in Georgetown, running in Rock Creek Park, or at the local dive bars in their Columbia Heights Neighborhood.

Airships, sky-pirates, smugglers and soldiers… An Airship Named Desire is an action-filled steampunk adventure.

Ever since their last botched smuggling job, First Mate Bea and the crew of her airship can barely afford fuel, let alone a barrel of grog. Somehow, though, their employer forgot to mention the box’s military escort, and the Morlock mercenaries who would kill to get their hands on it. Oh, and that if made public, the contents could engulf Europe in another devastating war.

Stealing the box was the easy part. Now, with a target on their back, and some of the toughest characters in the sky after them, they have to find a way to survive. If the crew of the Desire don’t polish their pistols and prepare for a hell of a fight, they’ll end up worse than grounded. After all, everyone from the Brits to the Morlocks will kill for the contents of that box, and no one survives an airship crash.

The Shard Chronicles by Liam M. Taylor

Book Description

The Shard Chronicles by Liam M. Taylor

The Indie Book of the Day for 18th of October, 2014!

Genre: Science Fiction, Time Travel

Our destruction is soon Our hero is now

A mild quake struck the exact moment Austin Cooper was born. When he was two years old an unidentified man saved his life, and he was five when the man guided him during his first use of a remarkable ability. At age seven, the man told Austin the talent he had was unique among anyone else in existence, and given to ensure his role as future protector of an ancient and powerful artifact. Later that day, the man departed Earth, taking the object he had possessed for centuries, and leaving behind a world condemned to destruction by the brooding, alien malevolence it contained. Now, Austin matures with the understanding that no one else has the ability to manipulate time, to move through it at a different level, a different speed. No one else can simply disappear to a place far away, a parched, bleak, and inhospitable wasteland. The trouble is, neither should Austin. Without control of the artifact, he achieves the supposedly impossible, and reveals himself to another realm, to others that require him, preferably alive, but otherwise would suffice. And things just aren’t getting any easier. There are the seemingly real and vivid dreams that plague him over the years, his ongoing struggle to keep the truth from his loving family, and the prospect of all-out war with a vengeful school bully, intent on destroying the only person able to defeat his cruel and callous deeds. Well… take a number and get in line. Half the Universe is already waiting.

A New Zealander by birth, Liam came into this world in Auckland, the City of Sails, on a sunny December day in 1967, to an English mother and Kiwi father. From an early age, he loved books, especially anything to do with science fiction/fantasy, and on the weekends, in a time before personal computers, video game platforms and social media, this often led to ‘Lord of the Rings’ style battle re-enactments around the wooded areas of his hometown.

Throughout his schooling, even extending into his formative years, he held something close to his heart… a burning desire to write, fueled by various comments and accomplishments in English and one special competition win at the age of nine. However, the shadow of an antiquated belief that a son must follow his father’s vocation, coupled with some extraordinarily bad advice, influenced that naïve adolescent into a variety of unfulfilling jobs.

Eventually, he left the shores of his country and ventured out into the world… to the birthplace of his beloved mother, England. It was there, based in London and later Reading (actually pronounced Redding. Still, coincidental? Or perhaps a twist of fate?) that his life really took off, and he met many an amazing person and experienced many wonderful events on his travels around the globe. Yet still, he pushed away his true yearning, thinking that the opportunity to write was lost… even with all the great ideas that leapt into his mind, urging him to expand upon their fledgling concept. Write about me, they would say!

After moving to Queensland, Australia, he reconnected with a special person from his past… a special person he loves, admires, trusts, and who has given him the second thing he thought he would never have – two beautiful children. A special person who has been the key to his lock, his light, his beacon, through the darkest of hours. Inevitably, bleak days lay ahead, with the same old rut rearing its extremely ugly head… made worse by certain individuals both personally, and professionally.

But Karma, in all its infinite wisdom and consequences, had a plan. And on a night in November 2009, wrapped in despair, that plan slammed into his mind with the force of a Rocky Balboa roundhouse. Write, Liam Taylor… write.

You see, wonderful readers, there’s a reason for everything that happens, and with an abundance of life’s experience and knowledge under his belt, so begins his journey, his real calling, on a thought that never left the inner recesses of his mind, a thought that began on a delayed train from Reading to London’s Paddington Station in 2002, and a thought that grew with every passing rumination.

Now, The Shard Chronicles is well underway, and he is an awfully busy man, juggling family life and his true career. He’s loving every minute of it!
