TAKE THE DOG OUT! is a Readers’ Favorite 2014 Gold Medal Winner for Children-Animals.

My goal is to make kids giggle while they learn. Reading is fun!

As a mother of two, I know it can be difficult to get children to read. Sometimes, they get frustrated.

Take the Dog Out! is a picture book intended to build a child’s reading confidence. It has fun illustrations, repetitive text, and sight words. In addition to reading the story, a child can find hidden dog bones, count the barks, and look for something red on every page.

On a more personal note, I’m a former newspaper correspondent and a graphic designer. My family includes a wonderful husband, two fabulous children, and a dog named Coconut. Coco is the inspiration for this picture book. She loves going for walks. Yes, she makes sure we Take the Dog Out!

Through Gilly’s Eyes by Matthew VanFossan

Book Description

Through Gilly's Eyes by Matthew VanFossan

The Indie Book of the Day for 20th of September, 2013!

Genre: Memoir, Pets

Through Gilly’s Eyes is a moving coming-of-age story about a young man and the guide dog who loved him.

What would you do if you were sitting in school one morning and suddenly found you couldn’t see? When it happens to Matt VanFossan during his third year of college, it’s the start of a life he hasn’t planned on and definitely doesn’t want. When he’s paired with a new guide dog a few months later, he’s still in a state of denial.

But Matt’s new companion, named Gilly, isn’t one for self-pity – or modesty, as he describes himself as “one of the handsomest dogs at guide dog school.” A keen observer of the human condition, especially his human’s condition, Gilly provides a running commentary on Matt’s progress. And as Gilly and Matt learn to work together, the two gradually forge a relationship that transcends the ordinary bonds between dog and man.

From dog training school then back to college, from home and on to Brazil, Gilly relates their story with humor and insight. Through Matt’s challenging adventures, new friendships, and ultimately, lasting love, Gilly provides him with guidance and companionship for six years – a lifetime that will last forever.

Not a dog lover? You will be once you’ve finished this tale and looked at the world through Gilly’s eyes.

Candice Gunderson and her purebred pooch, Phoebe, are driving through the Indiana countryside on their way to an appointment with a dog breeder. If all goes as planned, the “meeting” with Charles the Conqueror will result in a lovely litter of puppies.

Unfortunately, Candice is hopelessly lost, the GPS in her car has gone haywire, and she needs to find a bathroom in the worst way. The pair pulls up alongside a little house in hopes of finding some helpful inhabitants.

What she finds is Bull Ramsey, a cute farmer, and his mutt, Jack, who is more than happy to have a “meeting” of his own with Phoebe.

Candice is determined to maintain control of the situation and prove she is an independent woman. A few unexpected events and mischievous farm animals won’t interfere with her plans. She can handle this, right?

I’m a full time mom, wife, sister, & friend. Throw in a little housework, an irritating lapdog, the need to watch every episode of Forensic Files & I guess you could call me a busy woman. There are just not enough hours in the day. My escape is writing. I hope you enjoy reading my stories as much as I enjoy writing them.

The black & white photo is of my mom & was taken in the mid 40’s. I think she looks like a movie star. Don’t let any of the pictures of me fool you – Photoshop is an amazing thing.
