Delia Eastman returns home from teachers’ college with two goals: find a teaching position and sidestep her mother’s insistence on finding her a husband. But employers don’t care for women who are smarter than they. Neither do suitors. As she struggles to find her place, she discovers her sleepy Missouri River town has turned into a powder-keg of rivalry between the steamships and the railroads. Increasingly violent vandalism on the railroad brings her face-to-face with Endy Webster, a handsome trainmaster whose investigation into the crimes leads him to the door of a prominent steamship owner—Delia’s father. As Delia tries to clear her father’s name, she keeps tangling with Endy. He’s intelligent. He’s charming. And he’s guarding secrets. Thinking he might know more than he’s telling, Delia reluctantly agrees to partner with him to solve the mystery. With the vandalism becoming deadly, they’ll need every scrap of intelligence and logic to stay alive. Working together may not be their first choice, but it might be their last.

Malicious Mischief is a romance disguised as a mystery and sprinkled with historical facts and Biblical truth.

When Lora was a little girl, she and a neighbor girl played Laura and Mary (better known as Little House on the Prairie) incessantly. They’d start out with a scene from one of the books, but Lora added embellishments and extra material until Mrs. Wilder wouldn’t have recognized her Little House world.

After four years of teaching first and second graders and twenty plus years as a homeschool mom, Lora started making up stories again. But this time, she wrote them down. What started out as a secret pastime morphed into a desire to see her creations published. So she studied the writing craft, joined American Chrisitan Fiction Writers (ACFW), went to conferences, entered contests, and sent proposals. And got rejections.

The reasons for those rejections were encouraging though. Every one of them said the editor liked the story and liked her writing, but the book market was tight and the publishing house was re-structuring or cutting their fiction line entirely.

So Lora decided to publish independently. Scared but determined, she studied CreateSpace and e-pub; cover design and the ins and outs of Word. Finally, she produced her first indie pubbed book—a devotional entitled. Abiding: 30 Steps Closer.

When she’s not writing, Lora enjoys reading, hiking, and ballroom dancing. Most of all she delights in drinking chai tea lattes, and spending time with friends and family.

Come travel with him and learn some of the language as he takes you to exciting places around the world.

His first mystery novel, “Missing in Mexico,” is set in the SAFEST place in Mexico – Los Cabos on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. Not let the title scare you away; it’s not about anything bad you might’ve read about. It’s about a 19-year old girl who doesn’t return from Cabo and the Private Investigator who goes looking for her. Be careful, though, as you might get hooked on the travel, the intriguing story, and the charm of the places where he takes you. And if you like that, you just might want to book your next vacation in Cabo, where he spends 4+ weeks each year!

Sydney, Australia, is the setting for his next mystery novel, “Sydney Murders–SOLVED!” This book introduces a new recurring character, Professor Alfred Dunningham, PhD, who helps police departments around the world solve mysteries through the use of mathematics. Come “down under” with Stuart to see why he visited Sydney 5 times to conduct research for the book. He even reveals a security flaw that he discovered on the Sydney Harbour Bridge!

Professor Dunningham returns in Stuart’s next mystery novel that’s set on a cruise ship — “Disappearances in the Mediterranean.” He uses his knowledge of cruise ships, ports of call, and the activities that take place on a typical cruise to build the drama to another surprise ending!

I was a pretty boring kid. I was also a fairly run-of the-mill teenager. I never snuck out to parties. School sporting events were beyond my understanding. I was constantly lost between the worlds of books and theater. In college I majored in Journalism, which would eventually seal my fate. I wouldn’t realize it for another seven years or so.

Like most people in their early 20s, I jacked around quite a bit. Job here. Relationship there. Surely the emergency credit card can be used to purchase shoes, right? I really need nude heels that I can wear twice and then forget about completely.

Somewhere in my late 20s I started having honest heart-to-heart conversations with people that I looked up to. I decided to make some huge changes. I quit my well-paying job and started my own business, Curly Q Media. It was not a smart business move but then, I’m not often praised for using the left side of my brain.

Somewhere in the middle of that mess, I got the idea in my head to write books. The thought had lingered in the back of my brain for a long time but, you know, 60,000+ words is a serious time commitment.

I started the blog “365 with a Twist.” Basically, I took the typical 365 Project where you take one photo every day for a year and added a short story to it. This led me to write a short story with a couple of characters I loved like they were family. I began to wonder what they did outside of that racy short. I began to lose interest in the remaining several months of my project.

So was born my first novel. I wrote it in 32 days. The fact that I wanted to enter it into a first time writer’s competition with a deadline only 33 days away helped significantly. When it was submitted, I was so giddy with pleasure at my accomplishment that I started writing a follow-up. I celebrated the one-year anniversary of my now successful business just two months later.

That’s pretty much the story, for now. I still consider myself pretty boring. The only flavoring I use in lattes is vanilla. The only movies I’m willing to watch are those with happy endings. I won’t purchase less, I’ll simply find a way to make more. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, especially those holiday-themed ones with all the extra peanut butter, are my downfall.

The Punishing Game by Nathan Gottlieb

Book Description

The Punishing Game by Nathan Gottlieb

The Indie Book of the Day for 5th of December, 2014!

Genre: Literary, Mystery

On the Dark Side, things aren’t always what they appear to be.

That’s the way it looks to private eye Frank Boff when his friend, boxer Danny Cullen, gets caught in the middle of a drive-by shooting between two Brooklyn street gangs, the Bloods and the Jamaican Posse. A bullet grazes Cullen’s head as he hurls himself to the ground with his trainer, Ryan McAlary. A second trainer, Nino Biaggi, isn’t so lucky. He takes three to the head and is dead before he hits concrete.

The cops say Cullen and the two trainers were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But when Boff hears about it, he isn’t buying it. No way. No how. He thinks the drive-by was staged, that Cullen was the target of a well-planned assassination attempt.

So Boff hops a plane from his home in Vegas and flies to New York, where Cullen is in training for a big fight at the famed Madison Square Garden. The private eye launches an investigation into the shooting, and when he turns up evidence that the drive-by was indeed faked, an angry Cullen once again joins forces with Boff.

Their investigation will take them into a dangerous shadow world where powerful people are playing a game of high-stakes poker in order to pull off a multi-million dollar scam. When Boff is nearly gunned down in another assassination attempt, he and Cullen are now dead set on not only stopping the scam but punishing the people involved in a way that’s more just than justice.

Heiress, P.I. by Amanda Mahan

Book Description

Heiress, P.I. by Amanda Mahan

The Indie Book of the Day for 28th of November, 2014!

Genre: Literary, Mystery

For fans of Stephanie Plum, Veronica Mars and Gossip Girl…

Meet Lucy Hansen. She’s the richest teenager in the world – and possibly the shyest. She doesn’t flash her business to the paparazzi as she’s getting out of limos or send selfies while smoking salvia. No, Lucy hides behind her frizzy bangs, environmental causes and organic hemp-blend sweats. Her one true friend (and secret crush) Holden is the poorest kid in Beverly Hills – and probably the scrappiest. He interns for a famous private investigator, and when he asks Lucy to help him crack a case, her life turns from tame to tabloid, from glum to glam, from private to private eye. And when the trail leads directly to her hotel magnate father, it’s up to Lucy to solve the case by infiltrating Hollywood’s most elite and unwelcoming club: Celebutantes. Teens who are famous for, well… being famous.

Along the way, “LuHan” endures wardrobe malfunctions, fake romances, compromising videos-turned-YouTube hits, unflattering mug shots and – worst of all – a makeover. Now Lucy has to save her father, dodge the paparazzi, and keep her IRL ID on the DL – all while maybe, almost, possibly having her first real kiss.

If you’ve ever read the tabloids and wondered, “What was she thinking?” then HEIRESS, P.I. offers one possible answer.

The fact that she never actually went skydiving suggested a career in fiction. After graduation, she spent several years writing comedic online games and worked on two NBC sitcoms. Erik Rivenes writes late at night when the rest of the world sleeps. He has an unnatural obsession with early American history, especially history that crawls through dank sewers, slips through underground passages into brothel basements, or wheels and deals in smokey back rooms of rancid-smelling saloons.

He also likes more normal things as well, like hiking, farmer’s markets, Calvin and Hobbes comics, watching old James Cagney films, Dairy Queen sundaes, and laying on the grass on summer days and staring directly into the sun.

He shares his time between Minneapolis, MN, Portland, OR and Taipei, Taiwan.
