Turning Grace by J.Q. Davis

Book Description

Turning Grace by J.Q. Davis

The Indie Book of the Day for 1st of August, 2015!

Genre: Horror, Science Fiction

Everything seems ordinary for Grace Watkins. With the exception of her abnormal obsession for B-rated slasher movies and a strange hunger that is building inside her with each passing day, her life is as typical as any other senior at Middleton High.

The only issue Grace has is keeping her protective best friend away from giving her lone enemy, the ever-so-popular Sonny Westwood, a classic schoolyard beat down. It doesn’t help that Grace has had a secret crush on Sonny’s man, Tristen, since the first day she laid eyes on him.

But as one of her favorite nights of the year approaches, Grace begins to realize there may not be anything…normal about her. Her body is changing and her appetite is growing. Her urges are intensifying and becoming uncontrollable. And she just…wants…more.

What happens when something or someone stands in the way of feeding her need?

Better yet, what the hell is wrong with her?

Vaccination by Phillip Tomasso

Book Description

Vaccination by Phillip Tomasso

The Indie Book of the Day for 10th of April, 2015!

Genre: Literary, Horror

What if the H7N9 vaccination wasn’t just a preventative measure against swine flu?

It seemed like the flu came out of nowhere and yet, in no time at all the government manufactured a vaccination. Were lab workers diligent, or could the virus itself have been man-made?

Chase McKinney works as a dispatcher at 9-1-1. Taking emergency calls, it becomes immediately obvious that the entire city is infected with the walking dead. His first goal is to reach and save his two children.

Could the walls built by the U.S.A. to keep out illegal aliens, and the fact the Mexican government could not afford to vaccinate their citizens against the flu, make the southern border the only plausible destination for safety?

From Hell with Love by Kevin Kauffmann

Book Description

From Hell with Love by Kevin Kauffmann

The Indie Book of the Day for 15th of October, 2014!

Genre: Fantasy, Horror

What would you think if someone told you that Lucifer was the father of humanity, most demons and angels began their lives as humans, or that being a good person meant you could still end up in Hell?

What if you fell from grace and found that Hell was not all fire and brimstone?

After his death, Niccolo da Firenze found that he had been damned to Hell, but he quickly realized Lucifer’s prison was not what the church had always claimed. His new home was a breath of fresh air, a place where he truly belonged, and it was only a few years before Niccolo rose through the ranks and became the Horseman of Pestilence. Surrounded by new family and friends, accepted even with all of his faults, Niccolo would often forget his part in the coming Apocalypse.

That bliss comes to an end once Cadmus, the Horseman of Death, inherits a vision of Lucifer’s murder.

And so, with his fellow Horseman by his side, Niccolo begins his frantic journey to uncover a conspiracy involving ancient demons, corrupted humans and even a few gods. For Niccolo, there is far more at stake than the destruction of Hell. If Cadmus’ vision comes true, someone will murder the person who raised him from the depths and gave him hope in the darkness.

This is the story of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse and how they rode to save the Devil.

From Hell with Love is the first book in The Forsaken Comedy, the second series from Kevin Kauffmann. Depicting an alternate mythology informed by the Book of Revelations and supplemental texts, the novel strives to create an entertaining and thoughtful read which ties together fantasy, religion and scientific knowledge to create something entirely new.

Kevin Kauffmann was one of those kids that would make up stories every day, creating worlds and adventures for action figures, old Transformers and even lucky stuffed animals. Then the real world came knocking and he forgot he loved to tell stories. After grabbing a degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, he remembered just what he lost.

The Icarus Trilogy was Kauffmann’s first professional project and he started on Murder of Crows back in April, 2010. In July of that year, Kauffmann was told that his grandmother had been diagnosed with cancer, which caused Murder of Crows to become an entirely different project. In order to cope with his grief, Kauffmann’s writing became focused on how his characters dealt with loss, both in the form of personal identity and actually losing the people closest to them, and overcoming that pain.

Now, Kauffmann has decided to create an entirely new kind of story with The Forsaken Comedy, a series devoted to the Four Horsemen and their rise from Hell. The finale, In Defiance of Heaven, has just been released, but Kauffmann hopes to have his next book, Ouroboros, out by Winter 2014, and is steadily releasing short stories about an immortal, insane imp named Rumplestiltskin III.

They Only Come Out at Night by F. Kearney

Book Description

They Only Come Out at Night by F. Kearney

The Indie Book of the Day for 11th of October, 2014!

Genre: Literary, Horror

Terror reigns deep beneath the streets of New York City. The subway system is plagued by a series of unsolved, bizarre and particularly gruesome murders. A young man is found in a Brooklyn station with his heart crudely ripped out of his chest. The headless body of a conductor is discovered inside the locked cab of a Number 6 train in lower Manhattan. Authorities blame these, as well as several other equally macabre crimes, on the city’s growing, and increasingly aggressive homeless population.

Melissa Manning, however, isn’t buying that explanation.

Having experienced a personal tragedy in the subway years ago, Melissa is definitely no stranger to the violence that can occur underground… but this is different. Weeks before the first murder was even committed, she’s had an unsettling feeling that something horrifying was lurking within the sprawling transportation system. Many nights when traveling alone, and walking along a quiet stretch of the platform, she hears an eerie scraping sound in the distance, and has an overwhelming fear that someone – or something – is watching her. When the murders begin, and when a dark, faceless figure follows her home from the subway one night, she’s convinced that this is something far more insidious and frightening than mere random acts of violence. Not only can she feel the presence of an evil entity…she knows it’s just a matter of time before it comes after her.

Better known in the art world, F.M. Kearney is an award-winning fine art nature photographer. Although he has written several photography-related articles for magazines and online sites, this is his first novel-length feature in the horror genre. Kearney began his career as a photojournalist in New York City. His assignments took him all over town, with the subway serving as his primary means of transportation. When most non-New Yorkers think of the subway, thoughts of Grand Central, Times Square and Penn Station – huge bustling hubs filled with hundreds of people – will undoubtedly come to mind. Having traveled on every line in the city, it was clear to him that the vast majority of the system’s 468 stations were nothing like that, in fact, they were the exact opposite. Most were fairly quiet, dimly lit and sparsely populated…and that’s in the middle of the day. Viewing it as the perfect setting for a horror story, it’s no wonder why Kearney chose the subway as his muse for “They Only Come Out at Night.”
