Product Description

Keira lives in a valley shut off from the outside world. The valley is ruled by Mother Arbao who has exclusive access to an ancient book of laws that only she interprets. The adults labor night and day in the silver mines, permanently separated from their children. The children gather the golden grain used to make the dry, flavorless cakes that are the only food they are allowed. At night the children study verses provided to them by Mother Arbao, working diligently in hopes of becoming one of her trusted helpers. Keira's spirit is troubled by the strict way of life they are forced to endure. One day while gathering water for morning tea she is drawn closer to the river and discovers something to eat. Although a sin according to the laws, she consumes the forbidden food. Her awareness opens to the possibility that Mother's rule of the valley may not be the divine truth after all. She is soon set upon a path that puts the entire valley in danger as she struggles to discover the truth and end Mother's treacherous reign.
